Travel Tips
Small things that make a big difference when travelling in Bangladesh — from our guides who do this every week.
Before You Fly
- Photocopy your passport and store one copy separately from the original
- Download offline maps of Dhaka, Khulna and any regions you'll visit
- Notify your bank of your travel dates so your card is not blocked
- Pack any prescription medicine in original labelled boxes
Cultural Etiquette
- Greet with 'Assalamu Alaikum' or a warm 'Nomoshkar' — a smile works everywhere
- Remove shoes when entering homes, mosques and temples
- Ask permission before photographing people, especially women and children
- Use your right hand for eating and giving/receiving items
Money & Tipping
Tipping is not mandatory but always appreciated. USD 5–10 per day for your guide and USD 3–5 for your driver is a fair benchmark. Small BDT notes are handy for tea stalls, rickshaws and washroom attendants.
Connectivity
Grameenphone, Robi and Banglalink SIMs are cheap (USD 5 for 20GB) and reliable in cities and most rural areas. Wi-Fi is good in hotels and cafes; patchy on boats and in remote hills.
Photography
Golden hour on the Padma, Buriganga and Sundarbans rivers is unforgettable — carry a polariser. Drones require prior permission; we can arrange this with 3 weeks notice.
